FAQ - JIM NED BASKETBALL LEAGUE

Jim Ned Basketball League (JNBL) is a community based basketball league for Kindergarten through 6th grade kids in the Jim Ned area.  We strive to create a competitive and fun opportunity for kids to improve their skills and learn the game of basketball.

General Information

What is the Jim Ned Basketball League?

JNBL is a league dedicated to development. Our focus is to create an environment that enhances our athletes' effort, attitude, and competition. One that cultivates enough curiosity that they are willing to work on the game in the years to follow.

What age groups or divisions are available?

JNBL is a boys and girls league that goes from grades  Kindergarten through 6th. Our kinder division is co-ed.

When does the season start and end?

  • The JNBL season typically runs from the first or second weekend in January and ends middle to end of February.

  • Games are on Saturday’s and times vary. The sign ups usually start in the middle of October and will run through early November.

  • There is generally a coaches meeting in the later part of November and practices will begin in December.

Where are games and practices held?

Practices - This depends on the coach. Coaches have the ability to pick the times that work best for them. Due to our growth in the district, we work with the times provided by Jim Ned CISD and try our best to accommodate all times needed for the coaches.

Games - We play most games at AYSA. There are rare occasions that we have to play at Jim Ned, however having the ability to have all games in one area allows for those in the community with multiple kids at various ages to have a chance at watching everyone play.

What are Evaluations for and does my child have to attend?

Evaluations are a quick opportunity for us to gauge basic skill level of participants.  This is done to provide coaches some information on kids prior to splitting them up on teams to try to make the teams as even as we can.  If you cannot make it to evaluations, your child will still be placed on a team. WE DO NOT DO EVALUATIONS FOR KINDERGARTEN PLAYERS.

Teams and Practices

How are teams formed?

Teams are formed by a draft. The draft takes place with those who have volunteered their time to coach. They all draft from the list of participants that have signed up. This list has general information on the athlete including a quick breakdown of the athletic score based on a quick (5-10 minute) evaluation that the athlete participates in prior to the draft.

Can I request my child to be on a specific team or with a friend?

Not typically; however, you can reach out if you have an extenuating circumstance.

When and where are practices held?

Throughout the week at Jim Ned facilities. Location and practice time selected by the coach in coordination with the league and JNCISD.

How often do teams practice?

Once per week.

What equipment does my child need for practices and games?

A good pair of shoes and a good attitude. Jersey will be provided. The color shorts do not matter, however we notice most wear a navy or black short for gamedays.
